Biography

Shurwayne Winchester is a Tobagonian soca musician born on February 8, 1974, in Scarborough, Tobago. He entered musical competitions at age 12 and later established a professional career as a songwriter and performer. In 2002, Winchester released his debut album, Under My Spell. He gained wider recognition in 2004 after winning the Road March title with the song “The Band Coming” from the album Press Play. Winchester won a second consecutive Road March title in 2005 with the track “Dead or Alive”. In 2006, he won both the Power and Groovy Soca Monarch titles for the songs “Can’t Wait” and “Don’t Stop”. That same year, he received the Songwriter of the Year award from the Copyright Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago. In 2008, Winchester formed the band Y.O.U. (Yes One Unit) and collaborated with artists including Maxi Priest and Serani. His discography also includes the albums Evolution (2006) and Renaissance (2008).
