Biography

Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Sho Nuff recorded four albums during the disco era, before continuing their career on stage. Formed in 1975, Sho Nuff (also spelled Shoo-Nuff or Shonuff) comprises Al Bell III (percussion), James Lewis (keyboards), Lyn Chambers (bass), Lawrence Lewis (guitar, vocals), Bruce Means (drums) and Freddie Young (vocals, percussion). Signed to Stax Records, the group made a name for itself with the album From the Gut to the Butt (1978), from which three funk/disco singles were taken, before continuing with the Malaco label for Tonite (1980) and Stand Up for Love (1982). Sho Nuff recorded a fourth album for the Constellation label, Body Pressure (1983), distributed only in Japan by Seven Seas. While the band continued to perform live over the following decades, the first three albums were regularly reissued on CD, with the exception of Body Pressure, which was re-released on vinyl by the Parisian label Wewantsounds in 2025.
