Biography

Shirley Anne Hofmann (born 1959) is a Canadian jazz trombonist, improvisational musician, and multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, Ontario. Hofmann performed on the accordion, trombone, vocals, piano, euphonium, sousaphone, tuba, and keyboards. She graduated from McGill University in Montreal. Hofmann collaborated with artists including Ripoff Raskolnikov, Dave Holland, Roscoe Mitchell, Julian Priester, and Mani Neumeier. Between 1990 and 1993, Hofmann was a member of the avant-garde rock group The Blech, releasing the album Liebeslieder. Her recording career featured the solo project Euphoria, which included the albums From the Depths (1995) and Live (2005). Hofmann released the solo albums Idraulica! (1999) and Alp Traum (2000) on her label, Label UsineS. She performed with the Ben Jeger and Peeni Waali orchestras and recorded with L’Ensemble Raye, Jellyfish Kiss, and John Wolf Brennan.
