Biography

Carl Aiken aka Shinehead is a reggae singer and rapper of British origin, raised in New York. A pillar and charismatic figure of New York dancehall sound systems in the 1980s, he released Rough & Rugged, an eclectic, pop-influenced debut album that included a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". He accompanied Sly and Robbie on their experimental album Rhytm Killers (1987). From 1988 to 2002, he made five albums of reggae fused with rap, the most notable of which was Sidewalk University (1992), illuminated by his mischievous reworking of Sting's single "Englisman in New York " as "A Jamaican in New York", which remains his main claim to fame.
