Biography

Crystal Shawanda is a Canadian Ojibwe Potawatomi blues and country singer born on July 26, 1983, in Wiikwemkoong First Nation. She recorded her first album in Nashville at age 13. Signed to RCA Nashville in 2007, Shawanda released the single “You Can Let Go” in 2008, which reached the top 10 on the Canadian Country Singles Chart. Her debut studio album, Dawn of a New Day, appeared in 2008 and reached number 2 on the Canadian Country Albums chart. In 2009, she received the CCMA Female Artist of the Year award. Shawanda established New Sun Records and released the studio recordings The Whole World's Got the Blues (2014) and Church House Blues (2020), the latter receiving the Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year. In 2022, the album Midnight Blues reached number 8 on the American Billboard Blues chart.
