Shamir Bailey, known mononymously as Shamir, is an American singer-songwriter born on November 7, 1994, in Las Vegas, Nevada, whose genre-defying career began with the 2014 EP Northtown, blending disco, R&B, and indie influences. His 2015 debut album Ratchet, featuring the breakout single "On the Regular," garnered critical acclaim for its fusion of electronic pop and his distinctive countertenor voice. Following a departure from XL Recordings, Shamir independently released Hope and Revelations in 2017, showcasing a lo-fi, guitar-driven sound that delved into personal themes, including mental health and identity.
