Biography

Shalom Hanoch is an Israeli rock singer, lyricist, and composer who was born in Kibbutz Mishmarot, Mandatory Palestine, in 1946. He is famous for being one of the founders of Israeli rock and for his long-standing collaboration with Arik Einstein, which produced some of the genre's earliest albums. Hanoch achieved early professional recognition as a member of the kibbutz band HaMishmaron and later the military ensemble Lehakat HaNahal. His discography includes the breakthrough studio recording Mazal Gdi (1968), which featured only his compositions, and the collaborative studio recording Shablul (1970). In 1971, he recorded the English-language studio album Shalom in London. Following his return to Israel in 1973, he co-founded the rock ensemble Tamouz. Hanoch’s later work includes the studio recordings Adam Betoch Azmo (1977), Chatuna Levana (1981), and Mehakim LeMashiach (1985). He is also noted for the single “Kacha VeKacha” (1991), which reached number 9 on the Israeli charts.
