Sha Na Na, an American rock and roll cover band, was founded in 1969. The group originated from the traditional a cappella music group Columbia Kingsmen at Columbia University. Sha Na Na's breakthrough moment came when they were invited to perform at the Woodstock festival in 1969, thanks to their friendship with Jimi Hendrix. Their performance of "At the Hop" received a standing ovation and was featured in Michael Wadleigh's documentary Woodstock, contributing to the band's national fame. Sha Na Na released several albums throughout their career, including Rockin' in the 1980s (1980) and Rockin' Christmas (2002). The band's television variety show, Sha Na Na, aired from 1977 to 1981 and featured guest appearances by prominent artists like James Brown, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. Sha Na Na also contributed to the soundtrack of the film Grease (1978) and appeared in documentaries such as Woodstock (1970). Sha Na Na disbanded on December 5, 2022.
