Set The Tone was a Scottish electronic music group formed in 1982, consisting of Kenny Hyslop on drums, Bobby Paterson, Chris Morgan and Evelyn Asiedu. Hyslop had previously been a member of several notable bands including the Zones, the Skids, Slik, and Simple Minds, where he played drums on their hit single "Promised You a Miracle" (1982). Following his departure from Simple Minds, Hyslop formed Set The Tone with Paterson, Morgan, and Asiedu. The group quickly secured a recording contract with Island Records in late 1982. Set The Tone released their debut single "Dance Sucker" in January 1983, which peaked at number 62 on the UK Singles Chart. Their second single "Rap Your Love" followed in March 1983, reaching number 67 on the same chart. Around this time, they released their only album Shiftin' Air Affair. Paterson left the band and was replaced by Kendal Stubbs. Shortly afterwards, Island Records dropped Set The Tone. Following their disbandment in 1983, Hyslop formed the One O'Clock Gang and later became an alternative DJ before moving to Canada with blues band Big George and the Business. Paterson went on to join Primal Scream, Love and Money, and the Poems. Morgan released "Deep Fat" with Derek Brown and Stuart Lowndes in New York, while Asiedu works for Universal Music in New York.
