Biography

Selwyn Birchwood, born March 9 1985 in Orlando, Florida, is an American blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. After learning guitar at thirteen and discovering blues influences such as Buddy Guy and Jimi Hendrix, he joined veteran guitarist Sonny Rhodes as a touring member, which led to his first solo releases: FL Boy (2011) and Road Worn (2013). In 2014 he signed with Alligator Records and released Don’t Call No Ambulance, earning a Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Album that same year; the record featured a guest appearance by Joe Louis Walker. The Selwyn Birchwood Band toured extensively, opening for Robert Cray and Buddy Guy, and released Pick Your Poison (2017). Other releases include Living in a Burning House (2021), Exorcist (2023), Old School (2024), and Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues (2026). Birchwood won the Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge in 2013 and the Albert King Guitarist of the Year award the same year.
