Biography

Russ Morgan, born Russell Morgan on April 29, 1904, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States, was an American composer and big band leader. Influenced by his parents' musical backgrounds, he began playing piano at age seven and joined local bands as a teenager. He achieved radio success with the show Music in the Morgan Manner on WXYZ Detroit. His first recordings were released under the name Russell Brown and his Orchestra for Okeh Records. By 1936, Morgan formed his own orchestra. Notable songs included "So Tired", which charted in 1949. Throughout the 1950s, his orchestra was popular, performing extensively across the United States. He died on August 7, 1969.
