Rudolf Moralt was a German conductor born on February 26, 1902, in Munich. He was the nephew of Richard Strauss. Moralt studied with Walter Courvoisier and August Schmid-Lindner. From 1919 to 1923, he worked as a répétiteur at the Munich Opera under Bruno Walter and Hans Knappertsbusch. He conducted at opera houses in Kaiserslautern, Brno, Brunswick, and Graz. In 1940, he was appointed conductor at the Vienna State Opera, where he remained until 1958. Moralt recorded with soprano Maria Reining in 1942. His discography included recordings of the Ring cycle, Don Giovanni, and Salomé. From 1952, he appeared at the Salzburg Festival. In 1956, he conducted the premiere of Egon Wellesz's Symphonie n o 4. Moralt died on December 16, 1958, in Vienna.
