Ruby Wilson, born February 29, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, was an American singer known for her contributions to soul music. Raised in a family of six, Wilson's early life was influenced by both gospel and blues music. At age 15, Shirley Caesar invited Wilson to join her as a choriste on tour. In 1972, Wilson moved to Memphis, Tennessee, performing regularly at clubs like The Peabody and Club Handy. She released her debut album Ruby Wilson in 1981 under Malaco Records, followed by notable albums such as Cake Walking Babies (1988) and Outstanding in Their Field (1989) with the Hot Cotton Jazz Band. Throughout her career, Wilson collaborated with artists like B.B. King and performed at prestigious events including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. She received several accolades, including the title "Queen of Beale Street" in 1994. Wilson passed away on August 12, 2016.
