Biography
Royston Hulbert Nash, born on July 23, 1933, in Southampton, England, was a British conductor. He began studying the trumpet at age seven and joined the Royal Marines School of Music at 16. After receiving a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in conducting, he served as Director of Music to the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean. In 1970, Nash conducted a section of the Royal Marines Band during a performance of H.M.S. Pinafore. He joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as assistant musical director in September 1970 and became music director in March 1971, leading the company through its centenary year in 1975. During his tenure, he conducted several recordings, including The Mikado (1973) and Utopia Limited (1976). Nash moved to North America in 1979 and became musical director of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra until 2007. He died on April 4, 2016.
