Biography

Roy Harvey, born March 24, 1892 in Monroe County, West Virginia, was an American singer and old-time musician. He learned guitar as a child and worked as a train driver before joining Charlie Poole's band, the North Carolina Ramblers, in 1925. His first major success came in 1928 with "When The Roses Bloom For The Bootlegger", which sold over 72,000 copies for Columbia Records. After Poole's death in 1931, Harvey took over the band and continued recording. His career declined during the Great Depression, leading him to work as a policeman and later as a railroad worker in Florida. Harvey passed away on July 11, 1958.
