Roupa Nova is a Brazilian softârock band formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1980 by Paulinho (percussion, vocals), Serginho (drums, vocals), Nando (bass, vocals), Kiko (guitar, viola, vocals), Cleberson Horsth (keyboards, vocals) and Ricardo Feghali. Their breakthrough came with the 1981 selfâtitled debut, which produced the hit "Canção de Verão" and positioned the group on national radio. Subsequent releases followed a steady trajectory: Herança (1987) reached 1 million sales, Luz (1988) and Frente & Versos (1990) added chartâtopping singles such as "Anjo" and "Coração Pirata"; Roupacústico (2004) and Roupacústico 2 (2006) achieved doubleâplatinum and gold status respectively, and the 2009 album Roupa Nova em Londres earned a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Brazilian Pop Album. The band maintained a prolific touring schedule, collaborated with artists like Gal Costa and Ben's Brother, and launched their own label, Roupa Nova Music. Paulinho died on December 14, 2020, from COVIDâ19 complications; Fábio Nestares joined in 2021, ensuring the groupâs continuity. The band stayed active through later projects including the seasonal album Noite Feliz (2021), the anniversary-era Roupa Nova 40 Anos (2023), and the LP Nossas Canções in 2026.
