Ronn McFarlane, born in 1953 in West Virginia, is an American lutenist and composer known for his interpretations of Renaissance music. He began playing guitar as a teenager and later studied classical guitar at Shenandoah Conservatory and Peabody Conservatory with Paul O'Dette, Roger Harmon, and Pat O'Brien. In 1978, McFarlane started concentrating on the lute and became a founding member of The Baltimore Consort in 1979. He began touring extensively with the group and as a soloist across the United States, Canada, and Europe. From 1984 to 1995, he taught lute at Peabody Conservatory. McFarlane has released over 25 recordings, including collaborations with groups like Ayreheart and The Baltimore Consort. Notable releases include Indigo Road (2007), which received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Classical Crossover Album in 2009.
