Roland Peter Pöntinen, born on May 4, 1963, in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish pianist and composer. He studied at the Adolf Fredrik's Music School and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm, followed by further training at Indiana University in Bloomington, USA. Pöntinen debuted as a soloist in 1981 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. His discography includes over 50 records, starting with a recital of Russian piano music for BIS Records in 1984. His notable compositions included The Girl from Brazil (1981), Blue Winter (1987), and Mercury Dream (1994). He collaborated with conductors such as Myung-Whun Chung, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, and Neeme Järvi. Pöntinen received the Litteris et Artibus in 2002.
