Biography

Francisco Caló, known professionally as Roberto Caló, was born on April 26, 1913, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began his career as a singer and pianist at a young age, debuting as a chorus singer with his brother Juan's orchestra on Radio La Nación. In 1938, he joined his brother Miguel Caló’s orchestra, replacing Alberto Morel and recording hits like "Dulce amargura" and "Luces del puerto". Caló began to focus on conducting in 1945, debuting on LR4 Radio Splendid. Notable collaborations included Enrique Campos, Carlos Roldán, and Hugo del Cerro. His orchestra recorded several influential tangos, such as "Zorro gris", "Soy una fiera", and "Soñemos". Caló also composed notable works like "Te vi llegar" and the instrumental "Colores". He acted in films including Giácomo (1939) and Valle negro (1943). Caló passed away on April 26, 1985.
