Robert White (born Robert White, 19 November, 1936 in Billmeyer, Pennsylvania) was an American soul guitarist who began playing under the tutelage of his uncle before touring with The Moonglows. After relocating to Detroit in 1960, he joined Anna Records as a session player and was later signed by Motown as one of its three studio guitarists, alongside Joe Messina and Eddie Willis. White contributed the riff on "My Girl" by The Temptations, followed by work on "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Whatâs Going On" by Marvin Gaye, "You Keep Me Hanginâ On" by The Supremes, and "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder. In 1976 he moved to Losâ¯Angeles, where he continued performing with The Temptations and coâowned a recording studio. White released the 2006 album Voyage à Paris: Songs of Francis Poulenc and the single "Hold Me Tight" in 1985. He died in Octoberâ¯1994 at age 57 following heart surgery complications.
