Biography

Robert Ames, born on 8 October 1985 in Kettering, Northamptonshire, is a British conductor and violist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he met Hugh Brunt and together they founded the London Contemporary Orchestra in 2008. In September 2016, Ames was appointed as co-principal conductor of the orchestra, leading performances across various venues including Oval Space and Barbican Centre. His work extends to Abbey Road Studios, the National Theatre, and film projects such as Slow West, Macbeth, Conclave, and Theeb. Ames has collaborated with numerous artists, including Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Imogen Heap, Belle and Sebastian, Vivienne Westwood, DJ Shadow, Nala Sinephro, Jonny Greenwood, Radiohead, and Foals. In 2021, he released the album Change Ringing, followed by CARBS in 2022. Notably, Ames conducted the first video game prom at the BBC Proms in 2022.
