Biography

Richard Craig Harwood is a British cellist born on August 8, 1979, in Portsmouth. He began playing piano at age four and cello at five. Harwood made his concerto debut at age ten with the recording “G minor Kabalevsky Concerto” and studied with teachers including Joan Dickson, Steven Doane, and Heinrich Schiff. He performed at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Musikverein. Harwood collaborated with conductors including John Wilson and orchestras such as The Philharmonia. In 2004, he received the Pierre Fournier Award and the title of “Bachpreisträger” at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition. He joined the Sitkovetsky Trio in 2014. Harwood's discography included the recordings Cello and Piano Recital (2007) and Composing Without the Picture: Concert Works by Film Composers (2013). He appeared in the 2009 documentary In Search of Beethoven and performed on a 1692 cello by Francesco Rugeri.
