Richard Fields, known professionally as Richard "Dimples" Fields, was born on March 21, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his singing career in the early 1970s after moving to Oakland, California, where he headlined at the Cold Duck Music Lounge. Fields started recording for his own DRK label before signing with Boardwalk Records in 1981. His breakthrough single "If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another" reached Number 1 for three weeks on the US Billboard R&B chart and peaked at number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982. Fields' only entry in the UK Singles Chart occurred that February, when "I've Got to Learn to Say No" peaked at number 56. He had moderate success on the US R&B chart, with notable singles including "Your Wife Is Cheating On Us". After Boardwalk Records folded in 1983, Fields signed with RCA Records but was later dropped. Renamed simply "Dimples," he continued to record for Columbia and Life record labels. Fields died on January 12, 2000, at the Novato Community Hospital in Novato, California, at the age of 57, due to a stroke. He is buried at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.
