Biography

Born in Paris, France on December 24, 1962, Renaud Garcia-Fons is an acclaimed jazz double bassist. He began his musical journey by playing the piano at the age of five and then moving to studying classical guitar three years later. In his early teens, he briefly played rock music before he began training on double bass and embracing jazz. Renaud Garcia-Fons attended the Conservatoire de Paris, where he perfected his unique playing style. As a member of the National Jazz Orchestra, he collaborated on numerous recordings. His first album released as a leader was 1992’s Légendes, which consisted of original works inspired by his Mediterranean origins. Further albums include Alboreá (1995), Suite Andalouse with Pedro Soler (1995), Oriental Bass (1997) and Fuera (1999). Although his releases continued to receive critical acclaim, his commercial profile began to rise in the millennium with albums such as Entremundo (2004), La Linea del Sur (2009), and Méditerranées (2010). He received the Echo Deutscher MuzikPreis Jazz Prize for Best International Instrumental in 2010 and 2011, as well as winning numerous other awards and honors. His reputation has continued to grow with albums such as Silk Moon (2014), La Vie Devant Soi (2017), and Le Souffle des Cordes (2021).
