Biography

Born in 1964 in Fez, Morocco, Amina Alaoui was introduced to traditional Arabo-Andalusian music and Western classical music from an early age. Specializing in the transmission of gharnati music, originally from Granada (Spain), by the masters of the genre, the musician and singer made her recording debut in 1995. Since then, she has released a number of eclectic yet respectful albums(Alcantara, 1998) and collaborated with Rachid Taha. Siwan (2009), with Norwegian pianist Jon Balke, and Arco Iris (2011), are both published by ECM.
