La Castañeda, a Mexican rock band originating from Mexico City, was formed in 1989 by Edmundo Ortega, Alberto Rosas, and Osvaldo de León. The group's name is derived from the historic La Castañeda psychiatric hospital. Their debut album, Servicios Generales, was released in 1989 under Rock and Roll Circus. In 1993, they signed with BMG/Culebra, re-releasing their debut as Servicios Generales II with additional tracks. Subsequent albums included El Globo Negro: Locus Niger (1995) and El Hilo de Plata (1996). After a hiatus, La Castañeda returned in 1999 with the independent release of Trance, which featured a collaboration with Oscar Chávez on "Nancy Llaga". The band later shortened their name to La Casta and released an acoustic album, GalerÃa Acústica (2004), before returning to their original name in 2009. Notable albums from this period include Llama Doble: Primera Llama (2006), under the name La Casta, and Llama Doble: La Otra Llama (2010), under the name La Castañeda.
