Biography

The Pousette‑Dart Band was formed in 1973 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Jon Pousette‑Dart, John Troy and John Curtis, who initially performed as a string band before shifting to a more commercially oriented pop‑rock sound. Their breakthrough came with the 1976 single "What Can I Say" and the 1977 release "Fall on Me", which helped establish the group on the U.S. charts. The band signed with Capitol Records and released a series of albums: Pousette‑Dart Band (1976), Amnesia (1977, US Billboard number 143), Pousette‑Dart Band 3 (1978, US Billboard number 161), and Never Enough (1979, US Billboard number 203). The single "For Love" peaked at number 83 on the Billboard singles chart in 1979, and the track "Fall on Me" was later featured in the television series Lost. The group disbanded in 1981 after a period of touring and chart activity. In 1991, former members reunited for concerts, and a Best Of compilation was issued in 1994. Subsequent collaborations among former personnel continued, and original members Jon Pousette‑Dart and John Troy pursued solo careers. The band’s legacy remains evident in the continued appreciation of their early pop‑rock catalog and their influence on 1970s American soft rock.
