Born in Sydney on July 25, 1992, Australian guitar virtuoso Plini Roessler-Holgate aka Plini is known for both his dexterity with the instrument and his melodic sensibilities. Though heâs mostly associated with the prog rock scene, his music draws influence from a whole array of styles such as progressive metal, math rock, and jazz fusion. After issuing the EP Pastures (2011) under the pseudonym Halcyon, he started using his first name to record and release music while studying architecture in college. Other Things, his self-produced debut EP as Plini, saw the light in 2013 and was followed closely by another EP entitled Sweet Nothings, released that same year. The End of Everything, the third instalment in his EP trilogy, dropped in 2015 and paved the way for Handmade Cities, his official studio debut. Released in 2016, the album garnered praises from the likes of Steve Vai and earned Plini the title of Best Prog Guitarist of 2017 according to the website MusicRadar. In the following years, he returned with the EP Sunhead (2018), the single "Birds / Surfers"(2020), and delivered Impulse Voices (2020), his second album. After the release of the EP Mirage in 2023, Plini collaborated with Kiko Loureiro, Mateus Asato, Tosin Abasi and John Connearn. In 2025, he released the live recording Live in North America, followed by his third studio album, An Unnammeable Desire, released in April 2026.
