Pierre Kwenders, born José Louis Modabi on October 31, 1985, in Kinshasa, is a Congolese-Canadian singer. He began his music career with the release of his first EP, Whisky & Tea, in 2013. His debut album, Le Dernier Empereur Bantou, was released in 2014. Kwenders gained significant recognition with his second album, MAKANDA at the End of Space, the Beginning of Time, which was entirely produced by Fly Guy Dai and released on September 8, 2017. The album featured notable songs such as "Bittersweet Mornings" (feat. Fly Guy Dai) and "Makanda" (feat. Palaceer Lazaro & SassyBlack). Kwenders has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including the Polaris Music Prize in 2015 and the Juno Awards in 2015 for World Music Album of the Year. He won the Félix Award for World Music Album of the Year at the Gala de l'ADISQ in 2023 for his album José Louis and the Paradox of Love.
