Biography

Peter McConnell, born on April 19, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an American video game composer and musician. He studied music at Harvard University during the 1980s, where he was introduced to electronic music by his professor Ivan Tcherepnine. After graduating, McConnell worked with Michael Land at Lexicon before both were hired by LucasArts in 1991. At LucasArts, McConnell and Land developed the Interactive Music Streaming Engine (IMUSIC) while composing for games like Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. His breakthrough came with collaborations on Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, earning him the PC Gamer Magazine Award for Best Soundtrack in 1998. McConnell left LucasArts in 2000 to join Tim Schafer at Double Fine Productions, where he composed the soundtracks for Psychonauts (2005) and Brütal Legend (2009). He composed the score for the video game Psychonauts 2 (2021), earning nominations for a BAFTA Games Award and a D.I.C.E. Award. He also wrote music for the film Intersect (2020). His work is known for its versatility, spanning genres from jazz to rock, and his compositions have been featured in numerous high-profile video games.
