Pekka Taneli Kuusisto, born 7â¯Octoberâ¯1976 in Helsinki, Espoo, is a Finnish violinist, composer, and viola player who began violin studies at age three under Geza Szilvay. He won the International Jeanâ¯Sibelius Violin Competition in 1995, becoming the first Finnish to claim the title. His debut album, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, was released in 1999, followed by Music! in 2002, Summer Thoughts: Works for Violin and Piano in 2011 and the collaboration Kiestinki in 2011, featuring lyrics by Paulaâ¯Vesala. Notable projects include the world premiere of Fagerlundâs Darkness in Light (2015) with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the 2021 release of Beethoven & Stravinsky: Violin Concertos as conductor. Pekka Kuusisto has performed with Finnish Radio Symphony, Chamber Orchestra Europe, and other orchestras. In 2026, he released the album Willows, a collaboration with singer/guitarist Sam Amidon and the Norwegion Chamber Orchestra, featuring works from Ralph Vaughan Williams, Caroline Shaw, and Ellen Reid.
