Biography
Pedro Laurenz, born on October 10, 1902, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was an accomplished bandoneon player and composer. He initially studied violin but later took up the bandoneón under the influence of his older brothers. By 1917, he had moved to Montevideo and began his professional career performing with pianist Luis Casanovas at Café Au Bon Jour. In 1925, Laurenz joined Julio De Caro's sextet, where he formed a notable duo with Pedro Maffia. He later became the first bandoneonist in De Caroâs ensemble, participating in tours across Brazil and Europe. In 1934, Laurenz formed his own orchestra, debuting at Café Los 36 Billares. Notable collaborators included Osvaldo Pugliese on piano and vocalists Alberto Podestá and Alfredo Bermúdez. His tango compositions include "Amurado" (1925) and "Mala junta" (1927). Laurenz's orchestra was active from 1934 to 1953. He passed away on July 7, 1972.
