Biography

Paulina de las Mercedes Tamayo Cevallos (Quito, 14 April 1965) is an Ecuadorian singer whose career began in childhood under the guidance of her musically inclined family. She entered the company of actor Don Ernesto Albán at seven, receiving formal training in performance arts that shaped her artistic sensibility. Tamayo’s first public breakthrough came in 1970 when, at five, she won the “Artista Profesional” contest on Radio Éxito, performing the pasillo “Entrega Final” and earning a gold trophy at the Festival Colombo-Ecuadoriano. Tamayo’s discography spans several decades, beginning with the 1969 compilation Paulina Tamayo – Colección de Oro and continuing with anniversary releases such as Paulina Tamayo – 25 Años (1995), Paulina Tamayo – 30 Años (2001), Paulina Tamayo – 35 Años (2006), and Paulina Tamayo – 40 Años (2011). The 2014 album Ecuador en Mi Corazón highlighted her signature track “Canción de los Andes”, which achieved over a million views on streaming media platforms. In 2016 she released A Lo Grande Con la Grande, followed by a successful World Tour that began in Los Angeles on 10 December 2016. Tamayo has shared stages with international stars such as Roberto Carlos, Juan Gabriel, and José Luis Rodríguez, and served as a juror on the Teleamazonas reality Yo me llamo. Her career is marked by multiple national awards, including Best Artist of the Year in 2012.
