Biography

André Bemba-Bingui, known professionally as Pamelo Mounk’a, was born on May 10, 1945, in Brazzaville, Congo. He began his musical journey as a singer and composer, initially performing under the name Pablito with local groups such as Negro City and La Jeunesse Musicale du Congo. In 1959, he met Tabu Ley Rochereau, who became his mentor. Between 1963 and 1972, Mounk’a was a key member of the orchestra Les Bantous de la Capitale, where he composed notable songs like "Na landa bango" and "Masuwa." In November 1972, following a split within the orchestra, he formed the trio Le Peuple with Célestin Nkounka and Kosmos Moutouari. Throughout his career, Pamelo Mounk’a contributed significantly to Congolese rumba and soukous music. He passed away on January 14, 1996, in Brazzaville. His posthumous compilation L’Essentiel was released in 2008.
