Biography

Syran Mbenza is a jazz guitarist from what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo who learned to play as a child, performed with bands in Togo and Côte d'Ivoire before moving to Paris in 1981. He has played on recordings by groups such as Orchestra Kara de Kinshasha, Les Quatre Étoiles and Kèkélé, and released several solo albums. They include 'Kouame' (1980), 'Llanga' (1983), 'Elisa Dangwa' (1984), 'Sisika' (1986), 'Bana' (1987), 'Africa: The Golden Years' (1989), 'Symbiose' (1990), 'Immortal Franco: Africa's Unrivaled Guitar Legend' (2009) with Ensemble Rumba Konga and 'Ambiance tropicale - Soukouss a gogo, Vol. 1' (2015) with the track 'Icha'.
