PÃ¡ll Ãskar HjÃ¡lmtÃ½sson, known professionally as PÃ¡ll Ãskar and Paul Oscar, was born on March 16, 1970, in ReykjavÃk, Iceland. He is an Icelandic pop singer, songwriter, and disc jockey. From a young age, PÃ¡ll Ãskar displayed artistic talent, singing at private functions, with choirs, and for media advertisements. As a child, he recorded the song "NÃº Ã¡riÃ° er liÃ°iÃ°," but he made his professional debut with his first album StuÃ° in 1993. He later formed part of Icelandic groups MilljÃ³namÃ¦ringarnir (The Millionaires) and Casino while establishing himself as a solo artist. His album Palli, released in 1995, was the best-selling Icelandic album of that year. PÃ¡ll Ãskar gained international attention when he performed "Minn hinsti dans" ("My Final Dance"), Iceland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1997.
