Biography

Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson, known professionally as Páll Óskar and Paul Oscar, was born on March 16, 1970, in Reykjavík, Iceland. He is an Icelandic pop singer, songwriter, and disc jockey. From a young age, Páll Óskar displayed artistic talent, singing at private functions, with choirs, and for media advertisements. As a child, he recorded the song "Nú árið er liðið," but he made his professional debut with his first album Stuð in 1993. He later formed part of Icelandic groups Milljónamæringarnir (The Millionaires) and Casino while establishing himself as a solo artist. His album Palli, released in 1995, was the best-selling Icelandic album of that year. Páll Óskar gained international attention when he performed "Minn hinsti dans" ("My Final Dance"), Iceland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 1997.
