Biography

Pale is a band from Germany that was founded in 1993. Musically, Pale play indie and pop music. The band was initially formed by singer and guitarist Holger Kochs, singer and guitarist Christian Dang-anh and drummer Stephan Kochs. Bassist Philipp Breuer joins later and completes the band. In 1994, Pale released their first original songs with Krusty Tag E.P.. The debut album Swear Jar followed at the end of the year. Philipp Breuer then leaves Pale again. Jürgen "Hilly" Hilgers takes over the bass. Two more albums follow with Drop Pants for Food (1996) and Another Smart Move (1999). Regular concerts and festival appearances in Germany and other European countries increased Pale's popularity. The band's breakthrough came in 2001 with the album Razzmatazz (The Arts at the Sands). The concept album in the style of The Whos Quadrophenia earned many positive reviews. The follow-up How to Survive Chance also received positive reviews in 2002. In 2006, Pale switched to the Grand Hotel van Cleef label, which also released other well-known German bands such as Kettcar and Tomte. Another album, Brother, Sister, Bores!, is released in the same year. In May 2009, Pale announced their break-up after four final concerts. After the death of guitarist Christian Dang-anh in 2021, the former Pale members reunite. The Night, The Dawn And What Remains, a new studio album with songs that Christian Dang-anh was still involved in, was released at the end of 2022. Bigger Than Live follows a year later. With this longplayer, Pale make it into the German charts for the first time at number 52.
