Pacifika, a Canadian world music band formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, was founded in 2004 by high school friends Silvana Kane and Adam Popowitz. The group initially released their debut album Unveiled independently in 2004 under the original spelling Pacifica. In 2006, Toby Peter joined the band as a bass and drum player. Their second album, Asunción, was released in April 2008 by Six Degrees Records and Universal Motown. It reached the peak position on the iTunes Latino Album chart and was named Best Album of 2008 by NPR. The band performed at the Hollywood Bowl's World Festival in 2008 alongside Feist and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Their third album, Supermagique, released in August 2010, was named Best World Album of 2010 by iTunes and nominated for World Recording of the Year at the 2011 Juno Awards. Pacifika's fourth album, Amor Planeta, was released in 2014.
