Biography

Pablo Beltrán Ruiz, born March 5, 1915, in Mexico, was a Mexican composer and bandleader. He studied music at the Escuela Libre de Música (Free School of Music) under José Vázquez. His breakthrough came with "¿Quién será?", composed with Luis Demetrio in 1953. The song gained international recognition as "Sway" when Norman Gimbel wrote its English lyrics, becoming a hit by Dean Martin in 1954 and Bobby Rydell in 1960. Beltrán Ruiz's other notable works include "Picnic a Go-Go" and "La Sombra de tu Sonrisa", both released in 1966. His music was featured in several films, such as Escuela de vagabundos (1954). Throughout his career, he released numerous albums, including Pablo Beltrán Ruiz (1979) and Cumbias (1980). He passed away on July 29, 2008.
