Biography

Pablo BeltrÃ¡n Ruiz, born March 5, 1915, in Mexico, was a Mexican composer and bandleader. He studied music at the Escuela Libre de MÃºsica (Free School of Music) under JosÃ© VÃ¡zquez. His breakthrough came with "Â¿QuiÃ©n serÃ¡?", composed with Luis Demetrio in 1953. The song gained international recognition as "Sway" when Norman Gimbel wrote its English lyrics, becoming a hit by Dean Martin in 1954 and Bobby Rydell in 1960. BeltrÃ¡n Ruiz's other notable works include "Picnic a Go-Go" and "La Sombra de tu Sonrisa", both released in 1966. His music was featured in several films, such as Escuela de vagabundos (1954). Throughout his career, he released numerous albums, including Pablo BeltrÃ¡n Ruiz (1979) and Cumbias (1980). He passed away on July 29, 2008.
