Biography

The son of classical and jazz composer Norbert Goddaer, Belgian avant-pop artist Ozark Henry (born Piet Goddaer on 29 April 1970 in the city of Kortrijk) cut his teeth in local acts and tried his hand at rapping—joining the group Word with his brother Jan Goddaer—before setting out his solo stall with a debut LP. Released in 1996, I'm Seeking Something That Has Already Found Me found a fan in David Bowie and paved the way for its successor, This Last Warm Solitude. In 2000, he was awarded Best Writer Composer-arranger at Belgium's Zamu Music Awards and the following year achieved gold certification for third album Birthmarks. He upped his game even further with fourth album The Sailor Not the Sea, which went double platinum and 2006's The Soft Machine, which took him to the number-one spot in Belgium for the first time. After earning a Magritte Award for best original film music for 2012's Le Monde Nous Appartient in 2012, in 2015 he teamed up with the National Orchestra of Belgium for eighth album Paramount with his ninth album, Us, following two years later. An anniversary edition of Birthmarks was released in 2022 and 2023 saw the release of new single "Under Your Spell," a collaboration with the Starlings.
