Biography
Orlando González Soto, known professionally as Orlando Contreras, born May 22, 1930, in Palma Soriano, Cuba, was a Cuban bolero singer. He started his career singing with various musical groups in Havana, including the Arty Valdés trio, and performed in the Neno González Orchestra from 1952 to 1956. In 1961, he recorded more songs that placed him among the better-known singers, including his hit song "Mi corazonada". He worked alongside notable figures such as Beny Moré, Fernando Ãlvarez, and Orlando Vallejo at the Alà Bar, and later joined the Musicuba band. In September 1965, he moved to the United States and sang on a Portuguese tourist ship between 1966 and 1970. During the 1970s, he recorded an anthology with Daniel Santos and toured the Americas and Spain. He settled in MedellÃn, Colombia, where he and Santos were called "Los jefes" by their fans in bars and clubs. He also recorded with the Fruko y sus Tesos orchestra. His notable songs include "Esta tu canción", "En un beso la vida", and "Sin egoÃsmo". He died on February 9, 1994, in MedellÃn, from pulmonary cancer.
