Rudy Salvatore La Scala, born on 20â¯Januaryâ¯1954 in Rocca di Papa, Italy, is an ItalianâVenezuelan singer known for his distinctive highâpitched voice. He began performing with a small band at fifteen and debuted as a soloist under the name âFlavioâ in 1971 before adopting the stage name Rudy La Scala in 1974, releasing the single "Woman" that reached audiences in Venezuela, Brazil, France, and South Africa. His first album, Woman (1973), was issued by Polydor Records, followed by Mi alma es tropical (1977) and Itâs Time to Dance (1979). In 1982, he released Vete al infierno on Cosmos Records, and his 1985 album Volvamos a vivir on Sonográfica introduced the hit "Mi vida eres tú", which became the theme for the telenovela Cristal. Subsequent releases-Como quisiera (1988), Cuando yo amo (1990), Por qué será (1991), Amazona (1992), Sentimientos (1996), Cuerpo y alma (1997), and Ofrenda de amor a Venezuela (2007)-demonstrated his continued presence on the Latin music scene, with "El cariño es como una flor" and "Por qué será" each reaching the top of Billboardâs Latin Songs in the 1990s. La Scala earned multiple platinum and gold certifications in Venezuela, collaborated with artists such as Karina, Guillermo Dávila, and Kiara, and contributed to advertising campaigns for brands like Paperâ¯Mate and Kelloggâs.
