Oleg Iosifovich Maisenberg (29 April 1945 â 16 April 2026) was a Ukrainianâborn classical pianist and teacher. He studied at the Central Music School in Kishinev and the Gnessin Institute in Moscow with Alexander Jocheles, winning the 1967 Music of the 20th Century competition and placing second at the International Schubert Competition in Vienna. In 1981 he moved to Vienna and built an international solo career, appearing with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and collaborating with violinist Gidon Kremer. His recordings include Schubert: Piano Music (1983), Rachmaninov: Works for Two Pianos and Four-Hands Piano with Brigitte Engerer (1989), Schubert: Sonatinas for Violin and Piano, Op. Posth. 173 (1993) and Schubert - Liszt: Erlkönig - Duos & Transcriptions (1995) with Gidon Kremer, and Grieg: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16 - Schubert: Wanderer Fantasy in C Major, Op. 15, D. 760 (2023). Oleg Maisenberg taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 1998 to 2013 and died in Vienna at the age of 80.
