Oceanlab was formed in London in 2000 by vocalist Justine Suissa alongside the trio of Above & Beyond members Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki, and Tony McGuinness, who collectively brought their electronic music expertise to the project. The groupâs breakthrough arrived with the single "Clear Blue Water" released in 2001, which charted at number 48 on the UK Singles Chart in 2002 and was remixed by artists such as Ferry Corsten, signalling the groupâs potential in the trance scene. In 2004, the single "Satellite" became Oceanlabâs highestâcharting release, peaking at number 19 on the UK charts and receiving extensive play on BBC Radio 1. The duo continued to release singles throughout the decade, including "Sirens of the Sea" and "Miracle" in 2008, before announcing their debut album Sirens of the Sea in July 2008. In 2014, the members confirmed that the Oceanlab name would no longer be used for future productions, though the brand resurfaced sporadically with releases such as "Another Chance" in 2016 and "Alright Now" in 2017, the latter appearing on Above & Beyondâs 2018 album Common Ground. In 2021, Justine Suissa collaborated with Above & Beyond on "Almost Home", marking a reunion after a fourâyear hiatus, and in 2023 a limited edition set featuring remixes of Oceanlabâs greatest hits was released to commemorate the groupâs second decade.
