Biography

Japanese all-female idol group NMB48 (read "N.M.B. Forty-eight") were first created in 2010 as the second sister group to AKB48, produced by Yasushi Akimoto, and take their name from their home in the Namba district in Osaka city of Osaka Prefecture. They stepped out with their debut single "Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo" in July 2011 which shot to the top of Japan's Oricon chart. The third generation of NMB48 was announced in February 2012 and the fourth generation in December 2012. They have since racked up a string of number one singles, including 2011 follow-up single "Oh My God!," 2012's "Kitagawa Kenji" (北川謙二), 2013's "Kamonegikkusu," 2016's "Boku wa Inai," 2020's "Koi Nanka No Thank You!" (恋なんか No thank you!) and 20222's "Suki da Mushi" (好きだ虫). The group have released four studio albums to date, beginning with 2013 chart-topper Teppen Tottande! and taking in 2014's Sekai no Chūshin wa Osaka ya: Namba Jichiku, 2017's Namba Ai: Ima, Omou Koto (難波愛~今、思うこと~) and 2022 album NMB13, which also went to number one in Japan. In January 2022, NMB48 had a team shuffle and reformed their teams, which had disbanded the previous January.
