Biography

Nikolai Demidenko (born 1 July 1955 in Aniskino) is a classical pianist. He studied for twelve years at the Gnessin State Musical College under Anna Kantor and at the Moscow Conservatoire with Dmitri Bashkirov. He reached the finals of the 1976 Montreal International Piano Competition and the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and debuted in London in 1985 after Andrei Gavrilov withdrew. From 1990, he taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School, became a British citizen in 1995. His recordings include Moussorgsky: Tableaux d’une Exposition (2001), Beethoven: Diabelli Variations (2006), and Chopin collection (2008). He received a 1992 Gramophone Award for Medtner piano concertos and a 2010 MIDEM Special Chopin Award.
