Nikolai Demidenko, born on July 1, 1955, in Aniskino, Russian SSR, is a classical pianist. He studied for 12 years at the Gnessin State Musical College under Anna Kantor and at the Moscow Conservatoire with Dmitri Bashkirov. He reached the finals of the 1976 Montreal International Piano Competition and the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and debuted in London in 1985 after Andrei Gavrilov withdrew. In 1990, he began teaching at the Yehudi Menuhin School and became a British citizen in 1995. His recordings include Moussorgsky: Tableaux dâune Exposition (2001), Beethoven: Diabelli Variations (2006), and gus Chopin collection (2008). He received a 1992 Gramophone Award for Medtner piano concertos and a 2010 MIDEM Special Chopin Award.
