Biography

The Mystic Revealers, a reggae band from Bull Bay, Jamaica, formed in 1977. The group initially consisted of vocalist and guitarist Billy "Mystic" Wilmot, drummer Nicholas "Drummie" Henry, bassist Leroy "Lion" Edwards, and guitarist Steve Davis. Their first recording, "Winner", was released on their own Negus Beat label in 1982. In 1985, the band achieved their breakthrough with "Mash Down Apartheid" produced by Jimmy Cliff for his Oneness record label, which became a hit in Jamaica and raised funds for the African National Congress. The Mystic Revealers defied contemporary dancehall trends by blending roots reggae with rock, folk, and pop elements. Their debut album Young Revolutionaries was released in 1992. They toured extensively throughout the 1990s, including performances at Reggae Sunsplash and Bob Marley's 50th birthday celebration. After a hiatus in the 2000s, they reformed in 2012 and released Crucial Cuts in 2015.
