Biography

Murat Göğebakan – born on October 9, 1968, in Sarıçam, Turkey – was a musician, singer, and songwriter best known for playing Anatolian rock, which is a form of Turkish psychedelic music. After graduating from Hacettep University Ankara State Conservatory, he began working as a lecturer but would also give guitar lessons and work other odd jobs. Moving to Istanbul in 1995, he signed with Prestij Music and released his debut album, Ben Sana Aşık Oldum, in 1997. The album – which featured the singles "Ben Sana Aşık Oldum,” “Kara Gözlüm,” and “Öyle ki Hasretimsin" - was a success and he received several nominations from the Kral Turkey Music Awards, winning the trophy for Best Breakthrough Male Artist. Murat Göğebakan followed that success with albums such as Tek Suçum Seni Sevmekmiş (1999), Merhaba (2000), Yaralı (2004), and Aşıklar Yolu (2010). His final album, 2012’s Aşkın Gözyaşları, featured tracks such as “Vurgunum” and “Tapılacak Kadınsın.” Murat Göğebakan died of leukemia on July 31, 2014, at the age of 45.
