Delmar H. Lawrence III, known professionally as Mr. Del, was born on June 10, 1978, in Memphis, Tennessee. He began his music career recording a song with the rap group Three 6 Mafia before transitioning to Christian hip hop after becoming a Christian in 2000. His first solo album, The Future, was released in 2005 and debuted at number 15 on Billboardâs Gospel Chart. Mr. Del's subsequent albums include Hope Dealer (2007), which peaked at number 47 on Billboardâs Gospel Chart and featured American jazz musician Kirk Whalum, and Thrilla (2009), which debuted at number 2 on the Christian R&B/Hip Hop Chart. He received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album of the year and a 2010 GMA Dove Award nomination for Rap/Hip Hop Album of the year. Mr. Del is also the president of Dedicated Music Group (DMG)/Universal Records, an independent record label he founded to support his ministry and music career.
